How to develop a working content marketing strategy for small businesses

What can you do to improve your content marketing strategy?

Short answer: Provide the right content, at the right time to the right people.

Yes it’s easier said than done, and yes it’s always a work in progress, but it can be done and it works.

It works so well that Content Marketing is now a thing.

And yes, it takes a steady stream of fresh content.

So how should your content be?

Your content should address  your customers’ needs and should provide possible solutions for them to take.

Useful content.

But what does useful content entail?

It has the following characteristics.

Value

This really means your content helps your readers. More specifically it helps them to learn something, or to find something, or to do something.

Personalization

This is that whole thing about buyers personas.

It’s harder to write for an audience of people than it is to write to a single person.

So make up a person who is your ideal customer.

  • A new small business owner?
  • A married female homeowner with a husband and 2 kids in school?
  • A young man who loves motorcycles?

And write to them.

Relevance

Your content must make sense for your customers. Therefore using the idea above (personalization) write stuff that does make sense. Provide answers. BE USEFUL!

In conclusion….. Don’t write crap. There is too much crap on the Internet anyway. Add value, not fluff!
