What are the new trends in content marketing strategy for small businesses?

Content marketing techniques and new technologies to try out

If you already get the importance of content marketing, you know it can seem intimidating at time. It seems there is a lot to know: content creation, social media, SEO, etc.

You hear the industry is changing and there are “new and improved” strategies and techniques you need to learn to master content marketing and that it’s critical to keep your skills up to date.

The problem is most experts teach the wrong stuff.

Content marketing is all about content. Being a better writer is far more important than getting all the SEO technical details right (bearing in mind there is a core set of SEO technical stuff you absolutely MUST get right).

Content marketing best practices for small businesses

A lot of content marketing looks like journalism.

Audience

Who are you talking to? What do they care about? What interests them?

Your content marketing strategy is all about your desired audience. The main goal of your content marketing strategy is to attract and engage your target audience.

If your desired audience sees no value in your content, you’re doing it wrong.

Blog

THE hub of all your digital marketing everything is your blog. You use your blog as your content engine by (over time) converting what you’ve published on your blog into different formats: eBooks, actual books, videos, etc. But it all starts with publishing short focused blog posts that answer questions and provide useful information.

Call to Action

Content marketing is still marketing. Conversion matters and must be though through before you start. You don’t have to get it 1000% right up front, but you need at least an understanding of what actions you want website visitors to do, so you can constantly nudge them to do that.

Every blog post you publish on your business website should have a call to action. You use this call to action to lead your audience to a landing page where you give them something they value in exchange for their contact information..

Headlines

Using the right headlines on your content doubles or even triples your content’s reach. The wrong one can kill your content reach.

The simple truth is your blog posts headlines are the single most valuable real estate on your entire website.

Use tools like CoSchedule’s Headline Analyzer, to rate your headline in terms of SEO length, emotional zing etc.

Images

Have at least one image in every blog post to help you with search engine optimization. Images in your content get your content more engagement. At least 10% and sometimes twice as much (depending on how visual your stuff is).

Generating leads with your content

Everything you publish on your website leads to lead generation. It usually happen using landing pages as described above.
