While it’s always valuable to assess what worked last year and what needs improvements, you also need to look towards the future.

The following are some content marketing predictions to watch for in 2017.

Video marketing is expected to explode

In 2017, it is expected that more than 70% of all traffic will be generated by video. Why? Because creating videos is so cheap now anyone can do it.

Cameras, software to capture video, software to edit video, and software to convert video file formats are so cheap now anyone can now afford the tools. Many versions of the software is free.

It also doesn’t take extreme technical skills to master.

Since many people prefer to watch a short video over reading a blog post, you need to get onboard. Small businesses are using video for:

Live stream media will expand

Any business can now conduct a live stream session in which questions can be submitted and answered in real time. Webinarjam, Periscope, and Facebook Livestreaming are all options.

It’s excellent for live events such as presentations and demos, as it allows people to attend remotely, and ask questions.

Other content types will emerge

Until recently, blogging and written content has been the main format used. This year, expect other formats to grow in popularity.

Specifically video (as mentioned above) and user generated content, in various forms:

  • Discussion forums
  • Reviews
  • Social media discussions

Customer expectations are changing. We need to adapt to keep them engaged.
